India’s largest airline, IndiGo, faced a major travel disruption in early December 2025. Huge crowds were stranded at airports as hundreds of flights were suddenly cancelled. Because IndiGo handles a big share of India’s air travel, the entire aviation system was impacted.

The main reason was a pilot shortage triggered by new pilot duty & rest rules aimed at improving safety. IndiGo could not quickly reorganize pilot schedules under these rules, which led to mass cancellations.

📈🛬 Current recovery status
IndiGo says that almost 95% of its network is restored, with flights operating to nearly all destinations again. Normal services are returning gradually.
